THE FRENCH LOVE THEIR MOVIES

The winners are in at this year's Cannes Film Festival. May I have the envelope, please.

"The White Ribbon" won best picture. It's the story of German parents inflicting ritual punishment on their offspring to keep them "pure."

Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds" won a Best Actor award for Christoph Waltz. It's the story of Jewish soldiers who scalp Nazis during WWII.

Charlotte Gainsbourg won Best Actress for "Antichrist." A couple takes to the woods to re-bond and save their marriage. The movie features torture, a hand drill (don't ask), and male and female genital mutilation. Some in the audience fainted during the film and needed first aid.

Brillante Mendosa won Best Director for "Kinatay." This film features the kidnapping, beating, torture, rape, murder, decapitation and vivisection, of a beautiful young pregnant prostitute by corrupt police. It's all there, graphically, on screen. Kinatay means "butchered" in Tagalog. In the Philippines, this movie was titled "Chop Chop."

All these movies should be coming soon to a theatre near you.

Sleep well.

those movies are all disturbing to watch.. for sure.
they're all about violence, crime, and everything that I surely don't want to see on big screen!
though it may mirror a reality.. it's enough for me to know that Cannes Film Festival was a success! :D

Kate:

You don't have to see these things on the big screen. You can come and watch me filet I mean operate on a patient or two.

In two of the last four years I was awarded the honor of most invasive surgeon.

Perhaps after surgery you can join me for lunch.

Sincerely,

Dr. Morocco
